Sakura Kouno (河野 桜, Kōno Sakura^?) is a supporting character of the Horimiya series who serves as the vice president of the student council of Katagiri Senior High School.

She is enrolled in Class 3-5 with Remi Ayasaki.

Appearance

Sakura is a girl who stands at above average height with shoulder-length forest green hair and matching green colored eyes. She is also seen wearing her school uniform, along with black tights, white sneakers with green laces, and round-framed glasses.

It has been noted by Remi Ayasaki and Kyouko Hori that she has fairly large breasts.

Personality

Sakura is considered to be a well-rounded, kind and responsible girl.

While serving as the vice president of the Student Council, she is seen as very hardworking, ensuring that the student council does its work and completes it when needed. She is also noted to be reserved, as she refuses to admit that she has feelings for Tooru Ishikawa, but later brings herself to admit it to Remi Ayasaki when asked about having someone she likes.

Aside from being a hardworking and responsible individual, Sakura is noted to be insecure about herself. An example is how she envies Remi, whom Sakura believes is cute, unlike herself.

Despite feeling insecure, this insecurity, however, is something that she slowly overcomes throughout the series, which leads her to gain self-confidence and make new friends along the way.

Plot

Something that Sakura is shown struggling with throughout the manga is her own self-confidence and self-worth. These play a major role in her interactions with the other characters, most importantly of all, her eventual crush, and later confession to Tooru Ishikawa.

Etymology

• The name Sakura means "cherry blossom" (桜).
  • It shares the pronunciation of another Sakura which means "blossom" (咲) (saku) and "good, virtuous, respectable" (良) (ra).
• Sakura's surname Kouno means "river, stream" (河) (kou) and "field, wilderness" (野) (no).

Trivia

• Sakura's zodiac sign is Aquarius.
• Sakura is good at baking, and often baked cookies for Tooru Ishikawa before she confessed to him.
• Kouno behaves as an older sister with Sengoku and an older sister or even a mother with Ayasaki.
