This article describes the Manual of Style for the wiki. It includes guidelines about anything related to editing or writing content. These rules are subject to change without prior notice.

General Guidelines

Language

All content on this wiki should be written in English. Exceptions may occur for:

  • Japanese/Romanized names.
    • In accordance with the official translations by Yen Press, please write out long vowels in romanized names (ex. use 'Kyouko' instead of 'Kyoko' or 'Kyōko').
      • Writing the romaji in either the {{Nihongo}} template or an infobox is exempt from this rule, and long vowels should be written with a macron (ex. ō, ū) in these cases.
  • Official titles or object names in the context of the series.

Writing

Content should be written using a third-person perspective and in a factual and formal manner without opionated or biased statements. Profanity and slang should not be used, unless stated directly by a character through a quote. Misinformation and other non-constructive edits will not be tolerated and may result in warnings or blocks from the wiki.

All writing should be done in-universe and in present tense to promote consistency across articles. However, any flashbacks, references to past events, and the "History" section within a character's synopsis should be written in past tense.

  • In-universe refers to events and characters that exist within the story itself. Writing about an in-universe topic should not refer to specific chapters (ex. "In Chapter 1...") or outside events/media that are not explicitly stated.

When writing any article, please refer to characters with their first name if known (Kyouko, Izumi, Yuki, etc.). Characters should only be referenced by their last name if either their first name is unknown and/or another character is referring to them with their last name in a direct quote.

  • This is to avoid confusion when referring to characters with the same last name. Although some characters are more often identified with their last name (ex. "Hori" and "Miyamura") than other members in their family, it promotes consistency to just use first names.
  • Full names should be used sparingly.

Referencing

Information should always be referenced from official source material if it is not an obvious fact. If you are unable to decide whether or not to reference, it is best to add in the reference.

While referencing is expected and encouraged, it is advised to not add a reference after every sentence as to avoid cluttering the writing. Once per paragraph is usually more than enough.

Referencing the anime

Most of the information in character writing will come from the anime. For specific facts provided by the manga, please reference using:

  • <ref>''Horimiya Manga:'' [[Chapter #]], Page #</ref>

Referencing outside sources

When referencing outside sources (such as the authors' or anime's official Twitter), please add a link leading to the specific post or page that contains the information, along with a description.

Trivia

Trivia consists of facts about the article's subject that may not necessarily belong anywhere on the main page. As such, if there is information on the page/subpages that is also included in the trivia section, it should, in most cases, be removed.

Most of, if not all, trivia should be referenced if not immediately discernible. Referencing methods can be found under 'Referencing' above.

Additional Information

As this wiki is open to any editors and contain content from many various individuals, it does not 'belong' to any single person and as such, should be treated as a community project. For disputes and violations, please see the conduct policy for more information.

If there is any confusion on how to format or edit pages, feel free to reference any other related page with similar information. Please do not hesitate to contact an active administrator if you have questions.
