Class Trip (修学旅行 Shūgakuryokō?) is the first episode of the Horimiya: The Missing Pieces anime and the fourteenth overall. This episode is also known as The Journey Begins.

Synopsis[]

Everyone's excited for the class trip to Kyoto--except for Miyamura, who isn't sure how he'll navigate close time with others (including bath time!) while keeping his secret. Thankfully, Hori's there to help! Then there's drama(?) at the pool.

Summary[]

The beginning of the episode starts off where the last episode left off— at the 63rd Katagiri High School Graduation Ceremony. However, the episode itself is a flashback to their Kyoto School Trip.

As soon as they arrive at Kyoto, Yuki Yoshikawa is seen to be extremely excited because she has never been to Kyoto, and Tooru Ishikawa reminds Yuki to calm down. On the otherhand, Izumi Miyamura and Kyouko Hori are seen talking to one another about how their Middle School trip was in Kyoto. Miyamura brings up a concern about his bathing situation, since he cannot show his tattoos. He states that he is fully prepared to not shower the duration of the trip, and will change his clothes inside the bathroom. Hori mentions that all the girl's have bathrooms in their rooms, but the guys have to use the public bath.

Miyamura, Ishikawa, and Syu Iura all share the same room. Iura went ahead and picked up their hotel key, but fell asleep— leaving Miyamura and Ishikawa locked outside the room. Miyamura checks the trip itinerary and realizes that they have to bathe before dinner which puts Miyamura in a predicament. Once they are all in the changing rooms, Miyamura looks at Ishikawa, who happens to know about Miyamura's tattoos, for help. Ishikawa first states that Miyamura isn't feeling well, but immediately after he states that Miyamura is actually on his period.

Following that, he trudges down the hallway back to his room, and runs into Hori. He explains what happened and Hori offers Miyamura to take a bath in her room since Yuki went out. During this scene, Miyamura questions Hori explaining that she shouldn't just let any guy into her room; however, when Miyamura asks why Hori let him in, Hori explains that she trusts Miyamura, and that she knows he wouldn't do anything inappropriate. Miyamura continues to push the "Are you sure?" question onto Hori, making her flustered and confused as to what he meant by that. After Miyamura left, she later thinks to herself that if she did let Miyamura do something, he still wouldn't— but after their conversation, she isn't so sure anymore.

The following day, they are seen walking around Kyoto— with Iura and Ishikawa getting too excited and loud, and Yuki scolding them. During this time, Miyamura realizes that the itinerary says that boys can take a later bath at 23:00 (11pm) if they missed their scheduled bath time. After the trip concluded, Yuki shows Hori all the pictures they took on the trip.

The next part of the episode, shows Miyamura drenched in water because Remi Ayasaki accidentally sprayed him with a hose. Ayasaki and Miyamura go to the clinic, and she gives him a towel. She grows suspicious about why Miyamura chooses to stay covered up. She then questions Miyamura and brings up how he didn't want to bathe in the public bath, or how he never wants to swim. Miyamura brings this up to Ishikawa on top of the schoo roof. Ishikawa suggests that Miyamura could wear a vest, but Miyamura states that his arms would still show. Ishikawa then calls him out for that one time he came over to borrow Miyamura's textbook, but instead walks in on Miyamura wearing Hori's old sailor-style school uniform. Following the flahsback, Kakeru Sengoku walks in and gets dragged into the conversation of "What clothes do girls look better in?"

The next scene shows Miyamura and Sengoku talking with their English teacher, Shin Yasuda, about how both boys need to swim on the last day for P.E. Sengoku feels uncomfortable and insecure with his slender body, meanwhile Miyamura wants to hide his tattoos. This causes them to make up excuses to get them out of swimming. In the end, the compromise that was made, was to have Miyamura and Sengoku clean around the pool while the rest of the boys are swimming.
